Occupational and Environmental Medicine is a vital and varied field of Medicine which is growing and ever changing. Physicians who specialize in Occupational and Environmental Medicine may work in many different settings to include industrial plants, independent or hospital based clinics, at universities, or within insurance companies. On any given day, such a Specialist may perform a DOT physical on an over the road truck driver, perform a pre-placement exam on a young Police Officer, repair a minor laceration on a construction worker, determine respiratory fitness for a Firefighter, or provide urgent care treatment to any one of the many injured workers of Florida.
Occupational and Environmental Medicine Specialists must be ready to meet the needs of both the employer and the employee. Such Specialists see patients from all industries unique to Florida to include agriculture, construction, fishing, manufacturing, aerospace, travel/tourism, and the service industries. One of the greatest joys for an Occupational and Environmental Medicine Physician is to work closely with an injured worker to assist their return to maximum productivity in a safe and timely manner.
